Learning itineraries

  1. The Zumalacárregui brothers: a Carlist general and a Liberal politician. Two representative personages, providing two different viewpoints on the Basque Country in the 19th century, set against the transition from the Ancien  Régime to Liberalism.
  2. The industrial revolution. From traditional iron-working to foundries: early industry and the advent of the railways in the 19th century.
  3. War and peace. A reflection on the origins, forms and consequences of violence taking the 1st Carlist War as an example of warfare. A thought-provoking itinerary that is highly relevant today as it helps to understand the peace processes drawn up to resolve conflicts.
  4. The century of the revolutions. A look back at the key points for understanding Carlism and Liberalism in the Basque Country in the 19th century, and the difficult, violent transition from the Ancien Régime to the Liberal system.

  6. Birth of the Liberal state. The crisis of the Ancien Régime and the formation of the Liberal state
  7. Iron roads. A journey through the vestiges of the early industrialisation process in the area around the Zumalakarregi Museum: the Ormaiztegi viaduct, the mines of Zerain and the old Mirandaola iron-works in Legazpi.
  8. A journey through our past (combined ticket). Participants observe everyday rural and urban life on a tour of the Igartubeiti Farmhouse Museum and the Zumalakarregi Museum, learning about the development of architecture, the economy and society from the 16th century to the 19th.
